Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about caring for and cooking with American-made cast iron.
Does my new Lodge cast iron cookware need to be seasoned before its first use?
No, all Lodge cast iron cookware comes pre-seasoned with 100% natural vegetable oil and is ready to use right out of the box. Simply give it a quick rinse with hot water and dry it thoroughly before cooking your first meal.
How should I clean my cast iron skillet after cooking?
Wash your cookware by hand using hot water and a small amount of mild soap if desired. For stuck-on food, use a chainmail scrubber or a stiff brush. Most importantly, dry the pan immediately and completely with a lint-free cloth or paper towel to prevent rust.
What is the best way to maintain the seasoning on my cookware?
After cleaning and drying, apply a very thin layer of cooking oil to the entire surface of the pan while it is still warm. Buff it with a paper towel so it doesn't feel greasy, then store it in a dry place.
Can I use Lodge cast iron on glass-top or induction stoves?
Yes, Lodge cast iron is compatible with all stovetops, including induction, glass-top, electric, and gas. When using on a glass-top stove, always lift the cookware to move it rather than sliding it to avoid scratching the surface.
